Gasta Tech Update: NISP 'THE SHORE' by Terry and Orlagh George

Halo News
Halo heads for the Oscars!!!

Halo gets to see the widest variety of companies interested in pitching. People sometimes assume that because Halo operates out of the NI Science Park, that only technical companies need apply – not so! We’ve had graves, chocolate, baby cots and TV production applying. And recently we had our first short film – and it won angel backing.
THE SHORE is a collaboration between three internationally renowned Northern Irish filmmakers, two-time Oscar nominated writer/director Terry George (HOTEL RWANDA, IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER), Oscar nominated Cinematographer Seamus McGarvey (ATONEMENT, THE HOURS) and composer David Holmes (OCEAN'S THIRTEEN, OUT OF SIGHT). THE SHORE is a moving and funny story about one of the personal reconciliations that coincide with national reconciliation.

Terry wrote THE SHORE because he wanted to come home and make a film that reveals a face of Northern Ireland that has rarely been seen on screen, a place of reconciliation, iconic beauty, and great humour. The film will featured in film festivals worldwide, broadcast on television, available for download on itunes, and submitted for Academy Award and BAFTA consideration.

Shooting is going on at various NI locations right now with a cast which includes Ciaran Hinds (about to appear in the last two Harry Potter films). Indeed Halo staff, purely in the line of duty you will understand, had to visit the filming and ended up ‘working’ as extras!

So don’t forget to tune in to the Oscars and who knows, you might see some Halo angels cheering their winner to the stage for the Best Short Film category!

Norman's blog: “Long on bad news, short on the good: our news”
Norman Apsley, NISP Chief Executive

I dislike the imbalance of news coverage. Bad news outweighs the good and I really have very little time for that. I do enjoy the little snippets of good news that occasionally light up the ocean of gloom portrayed by our newscasters. I am indebted to Mike McKimm for one of his pieces over the summer.

I hope I’ve got it right. Because I’m so impatient with the other items on the news, I was channel flicking and missed some of it and I can’t find it on the BBC website. I was able to check it out on the weekend of the Portrush Air Show, though.
